About the Full-time Academy
1. The Dean
Shaykh Dr. Moaaz Safwat is a world-renowned teacher and scholar of the Ten Major Qira’āt by way of Tayyibat al-Nashr, and the Ten Minor Qira’āt by the way of Al-Shatibiyyah and Al-Dorrah. The Dean holds the faculty and its students to the highest expectations, conducts regular progress monitoring, adjusts teaching approaches as needed, and empowers students to take ownership of their journey in Quran recitation and memorization.
2. The Instructors & Isnad
Our licensed male and female Quran instructors, boasting diverse chains of transmission within canonical qirāʾāt, meticulously train students in Quranic recitation and memorization, ensuring exacting precision. Exceptional students, displaying dedication and proficiency, are offered a unique opportunity to pursue the esteemed prophetic teaching-license (ijāza) in Quran recitation, thereby upholding and perpetuating the sacred tradition of transmission.
3. The Guidance Counsellors
The male and female guidance counsellors are experienced mentors who have a unique ability to connect with younger students and nurture them through the sometimes arduous journey of memorizing the entire Quran. This is accomplished through regular meetings and counselling sessions with each student individually.
4. The Supervisor
The supervisor is an authorized Hafiz and trained to ensure that individual student progress is monitored, documented, evaluated and well-paced to meet set benchmarks.
5. The System
The system developed at Dar al-Burhan employs time-tested best practices found in leading Quran schools throughout the Muslim world. To ensure excellence, Dar al-Burhan limits its teacher-student ratio to 1:20.
The Academy's system is designed to achieve memorization targets without compromising quality.
The system has three distinct phases:
Phase 1 - comprising Grades 1 & 2
Phase 2 - comprising Grades 3 & 4
Phase 3 - comprising Grades 5, 6 & 7
Students are expected to progressively improve their recitation at each phase, through theoretical understanding and practical implementation of prononciation and tajweed rules, as they journey in their pursuit of becoming a Hafiz.
Progress through the grades and subsequently to the next phase is achieved by passing formal evaluations at distinct milestones which assess both tajweed and Hifz components.
